Food Safety Advisor Program
The Food Safety Advisor volunteer program at WSU Pierce County Extension is designed to provide in-depth food safety, food preservation and nutrition training. Participants receive 45 hours of subject matter and teaching methodology training. In return, volunteers commit to a minimum of 50 hours of volunteer service.
Trained volunteers help consumers with information on:

Safe food handling practices
- Basic understanding and prevention of food borne diseases
- Researched, safe home food preservation techniques
- Dietary guidelines
- Nutrition and health issues
- Quick and easy meal preparation classes
Audiences include:
- Consumers
- Community groups
- Young parents
- Teenagers
- Seniors
- Military personnel
- Children
