Mission Statement:
WSU
Food $ense teaches youth and adults with limited incomes to develop
skills and behaviors to eat healthfully.
Food
Stamp Nutrition Education (FSNE),
a component of the USDA’s
Food Stamp Program, was introduced into Washington State in 1991
to provide nutrition education to food stamp recipients. It began
with just two counties. By 2003, 19 counties in Washington State
were involved with a range of projects. Pierce County’s
FSNE started in 1998 and is renewed on an annual basis. Currently
there are two projects funded through FSNE: Square
Foot Nutrition and HealthWi$e.
The Expanded
Family and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP),
is a federal and state funded program designed to teach nutrition
information to parenting adults and to children living in low-income
neighborhoods or in Title I schools. EFNEP is located in Pierce,
King, Snohomish, Yakima, and Spokane Counties.
