FOUNDATION BOARD MEETING
Thursday, Jan. 3, 2008
Call to order by Ron Groves at 9:15 a.m. at the Pierce County Master Gardener office.
Roll Call: Present: Carolyn Brand, Cyndy Dillon, Ron Groves, Larry Owens, Paul Massee, Glenn Rogers, Bill Horn, Ann Maughan, Dottie Tate, Gwen Norlander, Joanne Slaybaugh, Nicole Martini. Visitors: Bill Rigby, Irene Reed.
Minutes of the previous meeting were approved
Ron made and Cindy seconded a motion that from now on the board will amend minutes via email prior to the meeting. This is to have in process a more time efficient manner in which to approve minutes. Approved minutes will be sent to Laura Chan to post on our web site each month.
Treasurer's Report: Glenn Rogers
- The final 2007 budget was presented by Glenn.
- Current balance is $62,104.00, not including the CD.
- The other items on the agenda, status of CD terms, recommendations for a second CD and annual reporting update were tabled until the next meeting.
State Board: Carolyn Brand
Carolyn asked for volunteers to attend the February meeting, which legislators will be attending. Ron volunteered. She also asked that she or Betty Ryan be advised of any recommendations for the state scholarship, soon. Carolyn stated that Pierce county will be sharing more information in future “Seeds for Thoughts”, the state publication.
Unfinished Business
- Board members watched video stream from Linda Burke Fox which reviewed the working partnership between WSU and the master gardener program.
- Addressed was the role of foundations and legal responsibility.
- Volunteers are protected by state law as long as WSU is cosponsoring the event, such as the plant sale and book sales.
- Nicole will check with WSU to see if we can get in writing that it is cosponsoring such events.
- Carolyn will get copies of the filmstrip to all foundation members.
- Next meeting re: memorandum of agreement is Jan 15.
Update on Recognition Celebration Jan 26
Nicole has enough volunteers and will be meeting with them.
