Communication Training

"Words alone are not enough to ensure effective communication"

Communication skills are essential for the success of individuals in the workplace and to the accomplishment of organizational goals. Among the topics participants will examine are barriers/hindrances to communication, components of communication, non-verbal language, and the impact within a workplace. Expand understanding of the purposes of communication, listening, feedback and clarifying techniques, conflict reducing impact of ‘I’ versus ‘You’ statements. Learn questioning techniques to improve discussions, the use and value of Johari Window Model for self-disclosure and trust building, key elements of cross-cultural communication, how to handle tough conversations, and the impacts of communication climates.

Bridging Communication Differences

This workshop covers the communication differences between multi-generational workforce, styles, gender and cultures. Today’s workplace has four generations working together. Workshop participants will examine the different generational values and motivators which can be frequent sources of frustration, and, real or perceived, conflict. Discover a few unexpected differences in cross-cultural communication. Learn how the impact of ‘how you say what you say’ can make or break a career.

Communication workshops explore the:
  • Purposes, realities and components of communication
  • Barries to effective communication
  • Multiple ways we communicate and the implications
  • Methods for influencing others, gathering data, managing conflict (link to conflict page) and decision-making (link to decision-making page)
  • How life experiences impact what we hear and our response
  • Impacts of gender, culture & social values
  • Interpersonal communication skills that build trust
  • Fact that listening is more than hearing
  • Techniques of feedback and clarification

Communication Styles workshops are a crucial element in the interpersonal interaction within the workplace and home because people respond to HOW we say WHAT we say. In this workshop, participants learn what their preferred communication style is by answering questions on a survey. Once the answers are interpreted, small group activities and role play demonstrate characteristics of each style. Then class discussion, lecture and additional group activities reveal the impacts, positive and negative, that each style has on interpersonal communication within the workplace. Knowledge of communication styles, which are learned, can reduce or prevent workplace conflict and enhance group and team efforts.

  • Centers around "How You Say What You Say"
  • Help you understand the critical link between communication style and relationships
  • Develop understanding of how communication styles can be used to manage outcome of important interactions
  • Create understanding of different styles and how to utilize differences beneficially for the organization

The following topics can be integrated into a Communication workshop or can be presented as an in-depth stand-alone workshop.
