Welcome to 4-H!
This
non-formal educational youth organization offers a variety of experiential
(learn by doing), such as......
4-H
Clubs/Groups
Clubs
are small groups of young people meeting with an adult volunteer
– this is one of the main ways in which 4-H Youth Development
works. The size of the group varies greatly,
depending on the need and availability of teen and adult volunteer
leaders. Groups meet on a schedule agreed upon by members, parents,
and leaders. Meetings include an educational program, such as a
demonstration or guest speaker, a business meeting, and time for
recreation. Project clubs focus on specific subject matter, like
gardening, computers, or fitness. In addition, members of a club
may choose to plan and carry out community service activities and
other events for themselves and their families.
4-H
Challenge Program
This project is under the environmental stewardship project in EM2778
Projects and Publications. Adventure activities such as the
Bonney Lake 4-H Challenge Course represent an experiential education
method that focuses on developing the whole person. The challenge
course is a "learn by doing" mechanism that gives youth immediate
feedback and personal and group success. It provides a mechanism
for groups and individuals to learn teamwork and solve problems
while experiencing fun and adventure at the same time.
Summer
Sewing School Program
This weeklong educational day camp is open to boys and girls ages
8-12 years of age. WSU Pierce County Extension Clothing
and Textiles volunteers will instruct the students. Pierce
County 4-H sponsors, organizes, implements, and supervises
the free sewing school, which is held at various sites throughout
the county and is usually the third week in June.
Pierce
County Teen Ambassadors
This program is offered for 4-H members, 7th grade and above. Teaching
leadership, promoting 4-H, planning state and county functions
are just a few of the activities
in which the Ambassadors participate.
4-H
School Enrichment & School-Aged Care
School enrichment/school-age care programs supplement school curricula.
The teacher, 4-H staff or school volunteer can deliver the research-based
curricula. Students are given the opportunity to expand their learning
while doing such projects as clowning, health & nutrition, sewing,
plant science, animal science and community service projects.
